Eight more farmers die in Telangana

Crop failure and indebtedness claimed the lives of the eight farmers
Hyderabad: Crop failure and indebtedness claimed the lives of eight more farmers in the state on Friday. Three of the farmers were from Karimnagar, and three others from Medak district. In Karimnagar’s Narsingapur, Kommidi Komal Reddy, 53, died due to a stroke. Family members said the crop on his three acres had failed. He had borrowed Rs 8 lakh which he was not in a position to repay. Choppari Laxmaiah, 45, of Cheemalakuntapally in Bejjanki mandal committed suicide by hanging in his field. He had borrowed Rs 3 lakh and sow crops in three acres, which dried up due to drought.
Parlapally Lachamma, a 45-year-old woman farmer from Marlapeta in Boinpally mandal, died due to heart stroke. Her husband Lingaiah had attempted suicide last year due to indebtedness and she had spent Rs 4 lakh to save him. This year, the couple suffered crop failure. In Medak district, Manje Balaiah, 50, of Lakdaram in Kondapaka mandal, hung himself from an electric pole. He had borrowed Rs 8 lakh to dug four borewells, all of which failed. His crops dried up too.
Akula Venkatesh, 40, of Toopran in Medak district committed suicide by hanging himself in his house. Biji Chandram, 46, of Ellayaguda village in Jagadevpur mandal consumed pesticide as he was unable to repay his debts. Narayana, 65, of Mallapuram thanda in Gattu mandal of Mahbubnagar district, died of a stroke while going to a bank to borrow money. He was depressed due to crop failure and indebtedness. Alladi Siddaiah, 56, of Kondapur in Tadwai mandal in Nizamabad district, ended his life at his home.
