Clinic told to pay Rs 22,000 to patient

He had complained that his condition had worsened following homeopathic treatment
Hyderabad: The Consumer Forum has awarded compensation to a person who had complained that his condition had worsened following homeopathic treatment from a city clinic. Prabhakar Rao Kotapati had been suffering from sinusitis, diabetes and hypothyroidism and had consulted one Dr Irfan at the Positive Homeopathy Clinic of Ameerpet for treatment.
As per the complainant, the doctor had assured him that he would be cured of his ailments and a sum of '15,000 per annum was charged towards costs of treatment. Subsequent to the payment, oral drops were administered to Mr Prabhakar, following which he claimed that he developed “discomfort in his stomach and esophagus and severe hyperacidity”.
As he was unhappy with the treatment and had several doubts in his mind, he decided to discontinue the treatment with Positive Homeopathy and requested for a refund. Mr Prabhakar alleged that he “continued to suffer acidity for five days and could not eat and also developed a fever”.
Despite submitting a written request to the clinic to process the request for refund, the complainant received no reply or relief. Mr Prabhakar then approached the Consumer Forum of Hyderabad and filed a petition for compensation. While the clinic contended that “the complainant had failed to furnish details” to enable them issue a cheque in his favour, the consumer forum brushed off the claims based on the evidence submitted. It ordered the Positive Homeopathy Clinic to refund Rs 15,000 to Mr Prabhakar and pay Rs 5,000 towards compensation and Rs 2,000 for costs.
