New Delhi: A slap. A scream. And a sudden flood of teenagers chasing after a miscreant. This CCTV footage showing a foreign woman getting assaulted by a mobile-snatcher in a South Delhi suburb has given new heroes to the city to rejoice about.
According to reports, the woman, who is an Uzbek national, has been in India for the past three months on a business trip. She was put up with a friend in Malviya Nagar, and the incident left her deeply shocked forcing her to contemplate returning to her country.
The video shows her talking on the phone and walking, all the while being trailed by a man who goes on to attack her, and attempts to snatch away the mobile phone. The woman is seen screaming for help and moments later, a group of boys, engaged in a football match in a nearby park, are seen jumping the fence to come to her rescue, chasing after the assailant. The video further shows the group catching up with him and carrying him on all fours.
It is routine for the teenagers, who call themselves 'Malviya Nagar Maniacs', to play in the park during late hours, and has turned them into neighbourhood heroes following the incident.
"We were discussing where he could have gone when we saw him hiding behind a car. As we approached near him, he confidently came out as if he hadn't done anything. But we recognized him," one of them said. The boys dragged him from the place and brought him back, where the police had reached.
