Fight off depression by opting for a Mediterranean diet
One of the ways to beat the blues is to start having a Mediterranean diet, according to a new study. In other words, a diet rich with fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts and olive oil along with low levels of processed meats, could prevent you from falling into depression easily.
The study involved looking at the impact of three major diets on the mental health of 15,000 people. These major diets were: the Pro-vegetarian Dietary Pattern, the Alternative Healthy Eating Index – 2010 and the Mediterranean diet, reports the Daily Mail.
The results made scientists conclude that nutrients and food patterns present in the last two diet patterns such as omega-3 fatty acids, vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and moderate alcohol intake could be responsible for reducing the risk of depression.
These findings were published in the journal BMC Medicine.
