Drinkers are 24 per cent less likely to get a heart attack than teetotallers
There’s some good news for people who love alcohol. A recent study claims that adult drinkers are 24 per cent less likely to suffer a heart attack than those who don’t drink, reports the Daily Mail. However, the study also adds that drinkers are at a far more risk of developing cancer.
The researchers examined 114, 970 men and women from 12 countries including Sweden, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, India and Turkey. After tracking the adults for a period of three years, they found that current drinkers were 24 per cent less likely to have suffered a heart attack than those who did not drink alcohol at all.
But they also discovered that drinkers were at a 51 per cent more risk of developing cancers. These cancers included cancers of the breast, ovary, liver and stomach. Those who consume alcohol also had an increased 29 per cent chance of injuring themselves accidentally, through falls, for example.
