'Star Trek Beyond' release delayed by two weeks

The third installment in the reboot series will now release on July 22, 2016

'Star Trek' fans will now have to wait a little longer for the new film from the series as the release of third installment in the reboot franchise, 'Star Trek Beyond' has been pushed. The studio did not cite any reason for the two-week push back but it's not due to competition, reported Ace Showbiz. Paramount announced on Thursday that 'Star Trek Beyond' will be released on July 22 next year. The film was original set to release on July 8, 2016.

The film was supposed to open on the same day as Zac Efron's comedy 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates' and animated film 'The Secret Life of Pets', but is now opening against Guy Ritchie's 'Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur' and Fox's animation 'Ice Age: Collision Course'.

'Star Trek Beyond' is also moving closer to other potential box office hits such as Paul Feig's 'Ghostbusters (2016), which releases on July 15 and Matt Damon-starring 'Bourne 5', releasing on July 29.

'Star Trek Beyond' will mark the 50th anniversary of the television launch of the landmark science-fiction series.

The film is directed by 'Fast and Furious' helmer Justin Lin and stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto among others.
