Vijayawada to get two more night shelters
The officials are scouting for the right place
Vijayawada: Officials of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are planning to construct two night shelters with a capacity of 100 bed each, in addition to the three night shelters in Hanumanpet and Ranigari Thota near Krishnalanka.
With the CM’s orders to construct two more night shelters, the officials are scouting for the right place. Meanwhile, the existing night shelters are in a horrible state due to official’s apathy and has given opportunity for miscreants to occupy them in Hanu-manpet and Ranigari Thota.
“Though all the three centres are being operated by NGOs, officials have failed to protect the homes keeping it free from the miscreants,” said a caretaker in the Hanumanpet home.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the corporation officer concerned, Ms Vijayal-akshmi, admitted that the shelters are in a poor state and will have a facelift in the next two months. Speaking on the funds for running the homes and the existing capacity, she said MEPMA will provide funds to look after the three homes which have a capacity of 250 and also arrange food in some cases. “MEPMA will release Rs 10 lakh for three homes every year,” she added.
