Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Technological University will introduce steps to relay classroom lectures through smart phones. The software for downloading this will be provided free to all 152 engineering colleges affiliated to the university.
The KTU, which will be renamed as A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University soon, will provide the software to students in colleges affiliated tothe university who register in the e-learning link on the KTU website. KTU Pro-Vice-Chancellor M. Abdu Rahman told Deccan Chronicle that registered students would be given a user id and password. The students with user id can login in and view the classes whenever they wanted.
Mobile Tutor, a Chennai-based company, has entered into an MoU with the KTU for the purpose, Mr Rahman said. In the first phase, from this year onwards lectures would be conducted in all subjects for first semester BTech students, Mr Rahman said.
The animations explaining the practical aspects of the subjects will be a highlight of these online video classes. The IIT has already been providing online course materials. However, it is for the first time in the country that a university has come up with a full-fledged video class facility, Mr Rahman said. The syllabus will be in tune with the revised syllabus for engineering colleges introduced by the KTU, he said.
