Karnataka: Wind energy bails state out of power crisis
Bengaluru: There will be no loadshedding for the Ganesha Chaturthi on Thursday, said Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, here on Wednesday. He said that the wind energy production, which was at around 100-120 mw till last week had gone up to 1067 mw, giving the much needed breather for the power-starved state.
Mr Shivakumar, who had said that there would be an acute power crisis till Sept 22, told reporters that the KPC had stopped hydro-electric power planst, as power from other sources was sufficient for the state.
“On Wednesday morning, power production touched a peak of 7761 mw, bridging the gap of 2000 mw, which was the shortfall till last week. While Jindal is supplying 895 mw, UPCL is producing around 1137 mw. Even BTPS and RTPS, where maintenance work was being carried out last week, also went into production,” he said.
Mr Shivakumar said that he does not foresee any power crisis till December. However, the wind power production might go down after that. The government has, however, already invited tenders and also negotiated with neighboring Tamil Nadu for supplying power, he said.
