Bengaluru: The government has promised the stricken villagers of Bingipura that no garbage will be dumped on their doorstep after two months. Transport and Bengaluru in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy, after meeting BBMP Mayor Manjunath Reddy and Commissioner Kumar Naik, told reporters on Wednesday that the government has decided to set up a waste processing unit near the village that would scientifically dispose of garbage.
Besides a processing plant, the state government will also provide drinking water through tanks and has released Rs 1.75 crore to the BWSSB to lay pipelines to the village. The government has also promised to construct new roads, a park and other facilities at Bingipura, Mr Reddy said.
Of the promised seven processing plants in the plan for garbage treatment in the city, four are ready to begin operations. Once all the plants are up and running, the BBMP can treat 2,500 metric tonnes of waste per day, although that will only take care of a little over half of 4,000 metric tonnes that the city produces. To dispose of the remaining 1,500 metric tonnes, the government will set up one more plant, Mr Reddy told DC.
