Jail for priest in temple jewel case

He was sentenced to three years in jail and Rs 5,000 fine for stealing ornaments from the temple
Tirupati: A. Venkataramana Deeshitulu, former main priest of the Sri Kodandaramaswamy temple, was on Wednesday sentenced to three years in jail and Rs 5,000 fine for stealing ornaments from the temple and pawning them in 2009. Third additional magistrate R. Sanyasi Naidu sentenced pawn brokers Sagar Mal and K. Raghava Reddy, who accepted the stolen jewellery, to one year imprisonment and Rs 5,000 fine under IPC Section 411 (retaining stolen property).
Venkataramana Deekshitulu was arrested on August 21, 2009, for the theft. Police subsequently recovered all the 11 ornaments that he had stolen and pawned with Sagar Mal and Raghava Reddy. On Friday he was sentenced under three IPC Sections — 406 (criminal breach of trust), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).
