Hyderabad: An armed chain-snatcher, who attacked a woman near KBR Park, was caught by the public. The woman, S. Naveena, raised an alarm when the criminal attacked her.
Naveena sustained minor injuries on her right arm when the thief tried to stab her. The snatcher was identified as Kalaapi Santhosh, 19. A habitual criminal, Santhosh, had come out of jail just 16 days ago on bail. He has six theft cases pending against him.
Naveena said she was outside the park when Santhosh tried to snatch her chain. “As I resisted, he took out the knife. I shouted and suddenly he injured me. But I did not let go,” said the victim.
Locals caught and roughed him up. Two A constables soon reached the spot. “Our men were in the area. They caught the thief,” inspector P. Murali Krishna said. Santhosh was sent to judicial remand. But secured bail on August 31. The victim, Naveena, was given treatment at a private hospital.
In another case, two chain-snatchers attacked a retired government employee named Sabita, who was on her morning walk at Begumpet and grabbed her 30 gram chain. The incident occurred near Mahankali inspector K. Satyanarayana's residence in Motilal Nehru colony.
