American national allegedly gangraped in Dharamsala
Dharamsala: An American woman, on her first visit to India, has claimed that she was gangraped by two men but police on Thursday said her medical examination has not indicated that such a thing could have happened.
Police has registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape) on the complaint of the 44-year-old woman from California and is investigating the matter.
The woman has alleged that she was drugged and raped on Monday night when she was returning to her hotel after purchasing groceries from the nearby Kotwali Bazar market.
A medical examination was conducted on her and on preliminary analysis nothing has come in that to indicate the possibility of rape, according to Superintendent of Police, Kangra, Abhishek Dular.
"Even no injury, wound or struggle mark were reportedly found," Dular said.
"The report of chemical investigation is awaited from Shimla, which may take few days. After that, the exact picture could come out," he said.
He said the CCTV footage of her hotel located in a crowded area of Kotwali bazaar too indicated that she left the room on Monday night for around 15 minutes only, during which the incident has been reported.
Dular said police is still investigating the matter from every angle. "The case is being investigated by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Renu Sharma.
The woman had alleged, "I had gone to a shop at a market on September 14 when two people attacked me from behind."
The woman, who came to India a week ago, had reportedly visited Kullu and Manali before coming to Dharamsala.
