Hyderabad: ‘Bucket Nimanjjana’, a novel idea to immerse Lord Ganesha idols at home and avoid polluting the water bodies, has caught the fancy of the people, thanks also to the appeals from Tollywood.
Earlier this week, Tollywood actor Tanikella Bharani urged people to follow the method and use only clay and other eco-friendly Ganesh as to mark Ganesh Chaturthi.
Several Tollywood actors swiftly responded to the call and are participating in awareness campaigns. Anchor Jhansi has started a Facebook page for the same and is also participating in campaigns to make eco-friendly Ganeshas. “Immerse Ganesha at your home in a bucket and reuse the water and mud for plants,” the Facebook page reads.
As of now, Kajal Agarwal, Sai Dharam Tej and Naresh have pledged their support to the initiative. The campaign is a hit and ‘bucket nimanjjana’ is trending on Facebook. “I have been practising the same for two years. I use eco-friendly clay Ganesha at my home and drain the water in the garden. I know people who keep a small clay Ganesha idol in Tulasi plant and pour water over the plant daily,” said Praveen Kumar, a resident of Kukatpally.
The Pollution Control Board too did its bit to turn the festival eco-friendly. It distributed clay Ganeshas to ministers and state chief secretary at the Secretariat Wednesday. Meanwhile, chief electrical inspector AG Ramana Prasad has appealed to the public to ensure electrical safety at Ganesh Mandaps.
“Use only 3-pin plugs and sockets in the installation. Avoid overloading of 3-pin sockets by using multiple plugs or connections. All the metal supports shall be effectively earthed. Do not use electrical stoves etc in the Mandaps and the wiring should be carried out by a licensed contractor. Fire safety measures should be in place,” he has urged citizens.
