US priest's child sex trial: Key witness recants

In a u-turn, key witness testified that the priest never molested the child

Pennsylvania: A key witness in the trial of a U.S. priest charged with travelling to Honduras to molest poor street children during missionary trips has recanted on the stand.

The 24-year-old man testified Tuesday in a federal courtroom in Pennsylvania that the Rev. Joseph Maurizio never molested him.

The witness acknowledged accusing the 70-year-old priest during a previous interview with investigators but now says he felt pressured. He says Maurizio's attorney tried to get him into the U.S. to testify at an earlier proceeding, but U.S. Embassy officials prevented him from getting a visa.

The Associated Press does not identify people who may be victims of sexual assaults.

Two other Honduran men have testified the priest either abused them or offered favours for sex or explicit photos.
