Anna University gets into world rankings

There are 14 Indian institutions in the overall world university rankings and half of them are among the global 400
Chennai: For the first time, Anna University, Chennai, has entered the Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) World University Rankings in the faculty of engineering and technology by securing the 293rd spot competing with top universities in the world.
However, in the overall ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retained its top position in the world while no Indian institution made it to the top 100, according to the global university ranking released on Tuesday.
There are 14 Indian institutions in the overall world university rankings and half of them are among the global 400. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has secured 44th place in the faculty of engineering and technology, followed by IIT-Bombay ( 52), IIT-Madras (72) IIT-Kharagpur ( 90), IIT-Kanpur (95), IIT-Roorkee (137), University of Delhi (268), Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (284) and Anna University (293).
Anna University registrar, S.Ganesan said the university’s commitment to do more society-oriented research and increased research publication and dedicated faculty made the university proud by taking it into the world university rankings.
“With the state government’s continued support and funding, we hope to do better next year,” he added. Two Indian institutes have for the first time made it to the top 200 in the overall ranking category—Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and IIT-Delhi securing the 147th and 179th ranks. IIT-Bombay stands at 202nd rank and IIT-Madras has bagged the 254th position.
University of Delhi (481-490), University of Calcutta (601-650), Banaras Hindu University (701+), Punjab University (701+), University of Mumbai (701+), University of Pune (701+) and Jawaharlal Nehru University are the other institutions featured in the overall rankings from India.
