Telangana government alleges bias in second rank to AP by World Bank
The Telangana government and TRS are peeved with the World Bank
Hyderabad: The Telangana government and TRS are peeved with the World Bank which rated Andhra Pradesh the second best state in the country in the ease of doing business and Telangana at the 13th place.
Interestingly, a World Bank team recently met chief secretary Rajiv Sharma to discuss funding for various projects and Telangana government is planning to seek aid for some of its projects. TRS leaders accused the World Bank of being highly biased. IT minister, K.T. Rama Rao questioned the rationale behind the World Bank assessment.
“I don’t know on what basis they have come to this assessment. I don’t want to take it seriously. We will go about our work as usual,” he said. TRS MP B Narasaiah Goud said the NDA and its allies ruled states had got better ratings compared to non-NDA ruled states. A senior government official told this newspaper that there was no need to be perturbed over the report since Telangana had already proved to be the destination for investment.
“It is another gimmick of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The report is manipulated. Hyderabad and Telangana are proven destinations,” the official said. Asked whether the government would counter the World Bank assessment, he replied in the negative.
“There is no need,” he remarked. “How is it possible? AP is yet to take off. Mr Naidu himself admitted there is no infrastructure in the state and sought Central funds for development. There is no new investments in AP so far despite Herculean efforts by Mr Naidu, yet it is listed second which is dubious,” Nomula Narasimhaiah, senior TRS leader said.
