Thiruvananthapuram: The meeting of the search committee to select a new vice chancellor for the Calicut University held here on Tuesday saw some dramatic moments with Calicut University senate nominee Syed Abid Hussain Thangal opposing the presence of higher education secretary B. Srinivas at the meeting.
The objection of Mr Thangal, who is a syndicate member of CU, was that Mr Srinivas could not attend the meeting as he was not a member of the search committee.
The meeting remained inconclusive. The next meeting of the search committee is scheduled for October 12.
Professor S.A. Bari, V-C of Central University of Gujarat who is the UGC nominee, said at the meeting that the committee had to come to a consensus and submit a three member panel to Governor P. Sathasivam who is also the chancellor of the university.
