Devolution of power soon in Sri Lanka
New Delhi: Visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday said his government was looking at devolution of power to ethnic Tamils under the provisions of the Constitution, even as India hoped that “Sri Lanka will achieve genuine reconciliation and development, so that all Sri Lankans, including the Sri Lankan Tamil community, can live a life of equality, justice, peace and dignity in a united Sri Lanka.”
Commenting on the crucial fishermen issue, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister said fishermen on both sides should continue discussion and come to a conclusion to resolve it in a time bound manner.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also raised the fishermen issue, telling Sri Lanka “that both countries have “agreed that fishermen’s associations on both sides should continue their efforts to find a solution".
Prime Minister Modi also said Indian fishermen are being encouraged to take up deep sea fishing.
