Damaged boats may get compensation
Mr Jawahirullah said that the state government should provide compensation to fishermen whose boats were completely damaged
Chennai: Fisheries minister K.A. Jayapal on Tuesday said that the decision on providing compensation to fishing boats completely damaged in Sri Lanka custody would be taken after consulting with the Chief Minister.
Replying to the issue raised by MMK member M. H. Jawahirullah and CPI (M) member Nagai Mali, Mr Jayapal said of the 81 boat that were under the custody of Sri Lanka, only 63 were brought back and put to use.
Mr Jawahirullah said that the state government should provide compensation to fishermen whose boats were completely damaged. He also asked the government to take steps to take up the issue of releasing 32 boats currently under the custody of the Sri Lanka.
