Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand’s letter angers Muslims

Anand had asked GHMC commissioner to take action against illegally constructed mosques
Hyderabad: Muslims of Shashtripuram area in Cyberabad are upset with Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand for writing to the GHMC, seeking action against alleged illegal mosques in the area. In his letter, Mr Anand had informed the GHMC commissioner that it had come to his notice that 17 mosques had been constructed in the Shastripuram area of Cyberabad over 15 years and enquiries had revealed that no permissions were taken from the GHMC for building these mosques.
He had asked the GHMC commissioner to take necessary action against the illegally constructed mosques and to tighten measures. While condemning the action of the police commissioner, MIM MLA and party general secretary Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri asked the government to clarify its stand on the letter.
Maintaining that the content of the letter reflected the “pervert mind and hatred of police officers towards mosques and Muslims”, he questioned Mr Anand about the laws and policing rules that he had based the letter on.
He said that the mosques were located on private land and the police commissioner had no right to ask for action against them.
Former corporator and leader of MBT, Amjad Ullah Khan, while lodging a complaint before the State Minorities Commission seeking action against the police commissioner, said that the letter clearly showed his exaggerated jealousy, particularism and sectarianism against the Muslim community.
When contacted, Mr Anand said that he was prepared to withdraw the letter since the matter had become controversial. “The letter was actually sent in April. When the issue arose, I had enquired with the special branch and they informed me that they had get some complaints from residents about the sound pollution caused by the mosques. They enquired into the complaints and placed the letter before me, I signed it as a routine matter.”
He added, “We get so many complaints regarding encroachments etc. daily…We usually forward them to the district collector and the GHMC. Here in this case it was purely about sound pollution and the special branch had mentioned about illegal construction of mosques.” “Since the constructions are on private land, we have decided to withdraw our letter," he said.
