CIAL readies plush kennel for dog squad

The dog squad staged a demonstration on the occasion of inauguration

KOCHI: The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has readied a plush kennel for the dog squad of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the airport spending '1.10 crore. The facility is to be used for the purpose of training the dog squad comprising six dogs and also for their rest.

The dogs are Charley, Lara, Sparkey, Anto, Ivan and Rambhi. They were trained at Indo-Tibetan Border Police facility in Punjab and BSF dog training school in Gwalior. While Ivan belongs to Cocker Spaniel breed, the rest belong to Labrador. They have expertise in smelling explosives.

The facility has been built near cargo complex area in 6500 sq ft space. There are air-conditioned and non-a/c rooms for the dogs. CISF constables have been deployed as handlers for the dogs. CIAL managing director V J Kurien inaugurated the kennel on Tuesday. Airport director A C K Nair, executive director A M Shabeer and chief financial officer Sunil Chacko were present on the occasion.
