Hyderabad: A 25-year-old housewife named Jyothi hanged herself due to alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws in RR district on Monday. Jyothi was married to M. Ravikumar and has a two-and-a-half-year-old child named Pandu.
Jyothi’s parents said they had given 50 grams of gold, Rs 30,000 and a bike as dowry. But after two years Ravi and his parents started harassing her for more dowry. Ravi, who is addicted to alcohol, used to beat Jyothi every day. On Sunday night also she was beaten by Ravi. On Monday when Ravi went for work Jyothi hanged herself. Police registered a case of dowry death against Ravi and his parents.
