It may be for the first time that a reality show in Malayalam has come up with outdoor sequences, which includes two video songs by the anchors of the show on the grand finale day. It was the dance reality show D2, of Mazhavil Manorama that shot into fame over night for two video songs — remake of the popular romantic track ‘Suno na sangemarmar’ and a peppy number titled ‘Thengakola Mangatholi’, in which anchors Govind Padmasoorya a.k.a. G.P. and Pearle Maaney performed. The episode went on air on September 13 and within a day the duo and their songs, especially the peppy item, became talk of the town.
While the romantic track garnered more than 42,000 views in the official YouTube channel of Mazhavil Manorama, the ‘Thengakola’ song outsmarted it and went on to get more than 50,000 views in a day. And, if the remake has got positive reviews, the ‘Thengakola’ song got mixed reviews. Many have criticised the makers and actors in the social media, for coming up with such a song.
However the creators say that they are quite happy about both responses. “We created both videos with a purpose and these mixed responses were expected. The regular viewers of D2 understood the context and humour elements of the ‘Thengakola’ song. It is a parody song done to imitate the D2 family members and to bring some funny characteristics of the show. More people came to know about our show and people will remember D2 for a long time just because of this song!,” says the programme producer. The ‘Thengakola’ song was shot inside the studio, whereas the remake of ‘Suno na sangemarmar’ took place in the premises of Peechi dam. The grand finale episode will be aired again on September 19 and 20 at 3.00 pm and 1.00 pm respectively.
