My heart lies in acting: Bhama
After a three-episode stint as a TV anchor, she got an offer to work in a Malayalam movie. So far, Bhama has acted in all the south Indian languages, including Kannada. And now the gorgeous girl is back in Sandalwood with PC Sekar’s Arjuna which features father-son duo Prajwal Devraj and Devaraj in lead roles for the first time on the big screen.
“It was a great experience working with Sekar in Arjuna. I had watched his Kannada movie Romeo, and I am glad that I accepted to work under his direction. I love my character in Arjuna. After my debut film in Kannada Modalasa, except for Shyloo, I had never worked in such good projects. I am eagerly looking forward to it,” says Bhama, who is also busy with the Malayalam movie Malgudi Days and an upcoming project by Malayalam director Rajesh Pillai. Though initially hesitant to get into films, the actress says that her family was a little conscious and cautious about her decision to take up acting as a career. “None of my family members are connected with the film industry. I was the first in the family to do so. I was also unsure but I decided to experience it first hand. It was only after my first film, working with a wonderful team, that I decided to stay on and now it’s been almost seven years in the industry,” says the Kerala girl.
Though she has earlier worked in Tamil and Telugu films, she feels that she is more comfortable working in Kannada films, which is great for Sandalwood. “After Malayalam movies, I have worked in Kannada movies. Despite the Ramanujam film which was also released in English, I was not satisfied with the kind of roles I got in the Tamil and Telugu industry,” she says adding that she has two more offers in Sandalwood which she is yet to confirm.
Music is her favourite hobby, and people might be surprised to learn that she has sung a few songs in Malayalam movies including 100 Degree Celsius which also features Sandalwood star Meghana Raj of the Rajahuli and Aatagara fame.
“I hate sports. Music is the only other passion other than acting. I have sung in a few films but I am not that serious about singing, acting is where my heart lies,” says Bhama adding that she is a bit lazy when it comes to exercises but she religiously practises meditation and that is what keeps her mind and body fit and fine.
