An ode to Superstar Rajinikanth at Venice
Visaranai has made it to the weeklong 72nd Venice Film Festival
The Vetrimaaran-directed film Visaranai having made it to the weeklong 72nd Venice Film Festival that concluded recently, was the big showbiz news. Audiences were in awe of the movie. However, not many know that there was another film screened at the international festival, which had a Kollywood connection.
The movie, For the Love of a Man directed by Rinku Kalsy, was screened at the festival on two days. Billed as the first feature-length documentary on the Indian fan culture, it threw light on the fan-following of Superstar Rajinikanth — what motivates thousands of the actor’s admirers and why they instantly connect with his charisma, forms the crux of the 80-minute film.
Rinku had uploaded portions from the film on YouTube a few months ago to serve as a curtain raiser, and explained about how the film was going to shape up. She also sought monetary help from viewers at that time, as she was finding it a little difficult to complete its postproduction. The enthusiastic director had asserted then that the names of the people who contribute to the film would be acknowledged. Rinku met several die-hard fans of Rajinikanth to film their experiences, and the emotions they have pertaining to the release of Rajini films.
