Indian government to launch its new operating system

Army intelligence were given the task to attack it to test the vulnerability of the test version of BOSS

Call it a ‘Make in India’ initiative or major step against countless attacks by hackers, the Indian government may soon launch its own operating system. A report by PC-Tablet stated that the new OS will be known as ‘Bharat Operating System Solution’ or BOSS.

BOSS will basically be developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), in partnership with Gujarat Technical University and is expected to launch this month. Reports state that the new operating system was successfully tested fending itself from all kinds of attacks during the past three months of trial.

DNA also reported that the Army intelligence were given the task to attack it to test the vulnerability of the test version of BOSS. The report further stated that BOSS is expected to be handed over to department of electronics and information technology (DEITY) to help it release the final version and make it ready for the use of government ministries.

What to expect from BOSS?

BOSS is expected to feature an on-screen keyboard that can support all major languages of India. BOSS is speculated to be code-named as ‘Anoop’.

PC Tablet also reported that like the new operating system will also be loaded with features such as Unicode 7, Ocra Screen Reader, E-speak and Magnifier etc. The government is also planning to add innovative features that can be beneficial to visually impaired individuals.

If BOSS turns into a success for India, then you can also expect the next version of operating system – EduBOSS, by next year. It will offer its users with essential educational tools and applications meant for primary, secondary education.
