Youth complains of IS bid to lure him
The messages were sent from a person who introduced himself to the youth as Shami

KOCHI: While a youth working with a firm in Kakkanad Infopark has approached the police complaining about a bid to lure him into the net of the notorious jihadi outfit Islamic State (IS) through WhatsApp messages, the police, which launched a probe into it, said they had not been able to establish any solid evidence in that direction so far.
“We have identified that the message has come from a US satellite number. We are doubtful whether this was an attempt by an unstable person. We are yet to establish any proof of IS link,” said Mr K.G. Babu Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Kochi, who is investigating the case.
However, police will be co-ordinating with central investigating agencies to go into the bottom of the case, he added.
City Police Commissioner M.P. Dinesh who is monitoring the investigation said that the authenticity of the messages was being verified by the police.
“The youth has lodged a complaint with us and we are investigating but we are doubtful whether the messages originated from IS,” he said.
The youth belonging to Kasargod district moved out of the group after his account was bombarded with messages, including one voice message in Arabic.
The messages were sent from a person who introduced himself to the youth as Shami.
The messenger also allegedly sent the notorious flag of Islamic State to the youth's WhatsApp account.
