RSS pulls up Bengaluru BJP for BBMP poll loss
BENGALURU: It was the turn of RSS leaders to take the city unit of the BJP and former deputy CM R. Ashok to task for bungling the Mayoral polls on Monday despite party winning more wards than the Congress and JD(S) put together in BBMP poll.
The ire of RSS leaders comes after criticism by party vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa and three Union ministers who formed part of the electoral college but did not even exchange pleasantries with Mr Ashok on the day the Congress-JD(S) alliance not only won polls to posts of Mayor and deputy Mayor but also chairpersons of various committees.
During a closed-door meeting with members of core committee and political affairs committee of BJP, the RSS top brass repeated asked why the party could not regain power in BBMP though it had 100 newly elected members and six independents who offered their support. They lambasted local BJP leaders for lack of vision and for turning away the independents when they ought to have been wooed in order to regain power in BBMP.
RSS leaders discussed post-poll alliance of Congress and JD(S) in BBMP and its political impact on BJP in the near future, according to sources in state unit of BJP.
‘Take up garbage issue’
RSS leaders have suggested to BJP leaders to take up the garbage issue in Bengaluru, and hold agitations against local authorities for their failure to handle the garbage problem. They also asked the leaders to start early and prepare for elections to the Legislative Council which are scheduled to be held in December.
