Probe reveals dead man was accused in chit fund fraud
City police are extracting his phone record to find out if he spoke or texted anyone before taking the drastic step
Chennai: Startling information was revealed about the suicide of Jai Ganesh (28) from Bengaluru who was found hanging in a farmhouse on ECR near Panaiyur on Sunday. City police discovered that Jai Ganesh was named the main accused in a chit fund fraud case being probed by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Tiruppur police.
A police team from Tiruppur which arrived at the city confirmed Jai Ganesh's identity, a senior police officer said. Furthermore, the people who partied at the farmhouse on Saturday were acquainted only through social networking site Facebook, police said.
Jai Ganesh came to the city on Friday evening and met up with five other persons separately before all of them decided to head to a farm house owned by city based doctor at Dravyam street, Panaiyur where they partied late into Saturday night before retiring to bed.
On Sunday morning, the others woke up to the fact that Jai had not been seen for a long time. After searching in Jai's room and around the farmhouse, one of them found him hanging from the 'frame' of the water heater inside the bathroom, according to a police officer.
Police, however, ruled out any foul play in Jai’s death. “It is a clear case of suicide. But the reason for the suicide is not known yet. There was no suicide note,” said an investigating officer.
Investigations with those who were present at the party revealed that Jai appeared upset since he came over to Chennai but did not share the reasons for the same," a senior police officer said. City police are extracting his phone record to find out if he spoke or texted anyone before taking the drastic step.
