Pakistan says soldier killed in firing by Indian troops on LoC

The biannual meeting between Pakistan Rangers and BSF just concluded on Saturday

Islamabad: Pakistan Army on Tuesday claimed that one of its soldiers was killed in firing on the LoC by Indian troops, days after the death of a BSF officer in firing by Pakistani forces.

"Pakistani troops responded befittingly to unprovoked firing by Indian forces," the army said in a statement. The incident occurred in Battal sector of Rawalakot district along the Line of Control.

The biannual meeting between commanders of Pakistan Rangers and Border Security Force concluded on Saturday in New Delhi where the border forces of both countries decided to completely ban firing of mortar shells along the border and LoC in Jammu and Kashmir which has killed several civilians and damaged houses.

But barely 24 hours after Pakistan agreed with India that there were would be no mortar shelling on each other, Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs along the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir killing a BSF officer on Sunday.

There have been 15 ceasefire violations by Pakistan so far this month. 11 Indians, including two jawans, were killed and over 30 injured in August in Pakistani firing. Overall, there have been over 250 violations of the border ceasefire agreement by Pakistan so far this year, of which 57 were in August.
