LDF seeks judicial probe into fort kochi boat mishap
KOCHI: LDF convener Vaikom Viswan inaugurated the indefinite hunger strike called by opposition leader in the corporation council K.J Jacob and CPI parliamentary party leader C.A Shakeer demanding a judicial probe into the Fort Kochi boat mishap.
While addressing the gathering, the LDF convener alleged that the state government had taken an apathetic attitude towards the incident.
“The government used to announce an inquiry by a judicial commission when such mishaps occurred. It is the civic body which should persuade the government to announce a judicial probe. However, the Kochi Corporation is not keen on recommending an inquiry into the tragedy,” Viswan alleged.
The LDF has also demanded that the Mayor, secretary and contractor should be charged in the case and a safe ferry service should be introduced on the Vypeen – Fort Kochi route.
Expressing solidarity with the protest, LDF workers from each division are also participating in the hunger strike.
CPI district secretary P. Raju presided over the meeting. CPM district secretary P. Rajeev, senior party leaders M.M Lawrence, K. Chandran Pillai, C.N Mohanan and other LDF leaders also participated.
