THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The strike by health service doctors entered the sixth day on Monday with the agitating medical officers staying away from VIP camp duties and training programmes.
However, doctors discharged all other services, including regular OPs, specialty OPs, casualty, operation theatres and ward duties.
The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) which is spearheading the agitation decided to continue with their stir without affecting the patient care activities in the 1250 health department institutions across the state.
The Director of Health Services has submitted a report to the government terming the ongoing strike of the doctors as illegal. The DHS has pointed out that the organisation had not served the mandatory notice before going on strike.
Reacting to the report of DHS, KGMOA office- bearers said that they were ready to face the consequences of going on mass leave in support of their demands.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan has sought the chief minister's intervention to resolve the strike which was causing huge inconvenience to poor patients.
He said instead of threatening and warning doctors , the authorities should invite them for negotiations and find a solution to their demands.
