Garbage crisis: Bingipura villagers refuse to back down

With just two days left for Ganesh Chathurti, the situation is likely to worsen in the city

Bengaluru: The garbage crisis is snowballing again with the villagers of S.Bingipura preventing BBMP garbage trucks from dumping waste at the landfill since Sunday night. Mayor B.N. Manjunath is likely to convince the villagers to allow dumping till the month-end, by which time alternative arrangements would be made.

With just two days left for Ganesh Chathurti, the situation is likely to worsen in the city as the quantum of garbage during festivals increases.

For the past five days, many parts of South Bengaluru, like Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Banashankari, Wilson Garden, among others, have been severely affected with the BBMP being unable to dispose of garbage. Mounds of garbage on street corners are a common sight in these areas. If the festival waste too adds up, it may be a disaster for the BBMP.
