COIMBATORE: Four persons including a 26-year-old woman committed suicide on a single day in separate incidents in Coimbatore on Sunday.
Police said Kanimozhi, 26, who married Mahendran, a car driver from Irugur, just a few months ago after being in love, had consumed poison due to some difference of opinion with her husband.
“Kanimozhi had consumed poison following a quarrel with her husband over some family issues,” police said. Based on a complaint from her father Murugesan, the Singanallur police have registered a case and an enquiry is on.
In the second incident, T. Nishant, 26, a B.E. graduate from Robertson road in R.S. Puram consumed poison allegedly due to his incurable shoulder pain. “He consumed poison and swooned at his house. Family members had rushed him to a hospital; however he was declared brought dead,” police said.
In the third incident, Alagirisamy, 45, a gold smith from Sukrawapet took the extreme step, as he was depressed over being childless. “He married twice, but his wives could not bear any children. This led to frequent quarrels in the family, which drove the gold smith to consume cyanide,” police said.
In the last incident Kabilan, 47, a daily wage labourer hailing from Madurai and residing at a rented house in Neelikonampalayam in Singanallur, was found dead in his house.
The Singanallur police are probing to know, if he had died due to excess intake of alcohol or if he had committed suicide by consuming poison.
