Demolition drive hits citizen block
The residents and leaders of political parties opposed the works in Vidyadharapuram
VIJAYAWADA: VMC’s demolition drive to initiate city’s beautification and the right of way works for the proposed flyover hit a roadblock on Monday when the residents and leaders of political parties opposed the works in Vidyadharapuram.
Staging a protest infront of corporation office, leaders of Congress and left parties alleged that government is supporting the “illegal demolition” with the help of their corporators and MLA’s. Later, they met Municipal commissioner G. Veerapandian and submitted a letter requesting an immediate halt to demolition works.
Meanwhile, residents, who received notices earlier to vacate their houses, said that state government has not promised any alternate arrangements for them and the matter of compensation was not discussed with the stake holders.
Congress PCC secretary Mr. Akula Srinivas, said that owners are ready to give up their land only for the construction of flyover and also warned the government that if anybody tries to demolish houses in the name of beautification, all the opposition parties would fight against it.
