Chottanikkara gets new water tank
KOCHI: The temple town of Chottanikkara, which had been reeling under acute water scarcity for several years, has finally started to get uninterrupted drinking water supply.
A new storage tank with a capacity of 80, 000 litres and pipeline network have been completed as part of the Rs 1.11 cr project initiated using the asset fund of minister Anoop Jacob.
With this, all areas in the panchayat will get drinking water from the Kerala Water Authority’s Choondi pump house.
Areas in Chottanikkara like Eruveli, Ambadimala, Kureekad, Udaya kavala had been getting drinking water only once a week. With the commissioning of the project, water will be supplied in these areas on alternate days, said Babu Thomas, superintending engineer, KWA. Earlier, a portion of the Choondi water was directed to Chottanikkara through Karingachira and Hill Palace pump houses.
However, water supply was not regular and often disrupted due to issues in pumping. With the new facility, the frequency and quantity of water supply will be improved significantly and the tailend areas in the pipeline network will also get uninterrupted water.
Minister Anoop Jacob commissioned the project recently. Panchayat president Johnson Thomas, standing committee members and KWA officials also attended.
