Centre bars Telangana from job interviews

Modi, during his Independence Day speech, had called upon state governments to avoid interviews for junior level posts
Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s plans to conduct interviews for lower category jobs like Groups 2, 3, 4 etc. has taken a hit with the Centre warning against such a move on Monday.
The Centre’s department of personnel and training wrote to chief secretary Rajiv Sharma to this effect. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day speech, had called upon state governments to avoid interviews for junior level posts.
No interview for junior jobs, PM had said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked state governments not to hold interviews for lower category jobs because a reason for corruption was the need for “approach” felt by people while applying for jobs.
He said sometimes a candidate who was high on the merit list for a job was rejected in the interview.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked all departments to end the practice of interviews at the earliest and promote merit by recruiting only through transparent, online processes.
“We should end this. Interviews can be held for jobs where personality or appearance is important,” Mr Modi said.
However, the Telangana government had recently taken a decision to conduct interviews for Groups’ posts to be filled by the Telangana State Public Service Commission.
As the notification of Groups examination expected to be announced soon, the state government will have to drop the interviews from these recruitment exams, adhering to the latest directive from the Central government.
