Bus shelters at Accountant General's Office, Museum
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finally after years of waiting, passengers can heave a sigh of relief. Thanks to the Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company (TRDCL), the concessionaire of the city road improvement project (CRIP) of the Thiruvananthapuram city corporation, two bus shelters are coming up in front of Museum and opposite the Accountant General's office at Statue.
The expenditure for each bus shelter will come up at a cost of Rs 4.8 lakh with the city corporation meeting half of the cost.
For years, rain or shine, passengers have been used to waiting on the busy road at Statue and on the footpath at Museum junction where they have been clamouring for proper bus shelters in the city.
Their cries have finally been heard by the city corporation which has decided to part with the national award money of Rs 7.5 lakh for a good cause.
Recently, the Thiruvananthapuram corporation had won the best city award under the bio-diversity management committee where it was rated under community mobilisation, poverty eradication and good governance.
TRDCL also decided to join hands with the city corporation under corporate social responsibility (CSR) where they have decided to chip in with the rest of the expenditure.
“Unfortunately the city corporation has only got a limited budget to construct bus shelters. So we decided to have two bus shelters, one at Museum Junction which is already under construction and another one opposite AG’s office”, said Anil Kumar Pandala, project director of TRDCL.
This is not the first time that TRDCL has come out with bus shelters as already they have constructed six modern ones.
