Bengaluru: Police reward their new partners against crime
Bengaluru: In a first of its kind initiative, Rajagopalnagar police reached out to various government schools in the area for helping the police in preventing crimes against children and women.
Rajagopalnagar Inspector Mahananda felicitated five teachers at the Rajagopalanagar police station recently. Parvathaiah from Deepashri High School, Shivanand from the Govt Primary School, Hegganahalli, Indirabhai of Govt High School, Hegganahalli and Veerabhadraiah of Sarvodhaya Govt High School were felicitated for joining hands with the police in making schools a safer place for children.
For 52-year-old Indirabhai, it was a memorable experience to be invited into the police station and felicitated by the police. She said that such programmes will mark a new beginning in fostering a better relationship between the police and schools. “Children have to be taught how to tackle any incidents of crime. They should be advised to approach parents, family members or the police to report the issue. The children will benefit the most in organising such interaction programmes between the police and teachers,” she said.
Mr Shivananda, another felicitated teacher, said that the initiative will encourage teachers and children to cooperate with the police. “I had never visited a police station before and didn’t know how a police station functions. When I received an invite by Mr Mahananda, I was surprised. It was a great honour to be felicitated by the police at the station where we learnt how a police station works,” he said.
Over 52 schools, both private and government, in the Rajagopalnagar police jurisdiction are being roped in for community policing programme. The police will conduct classes on safety and security of children and teach them about bad touch and good touch. The ASMs (Area Suraksha Mitras), who are community policing volunteers along with the area police, will carry out awareness campaigns for schoolchildren and teachers.
“Police wanted to honour the school teachers who had cooperated and encouraged the team during the awareness programmes,” said Mr Mahananda.
