Police protection for Shekher following threat calls over film
The board had refused clearance for the movie about two months ago, police said
Chennai: Police have beefed up security outside actor S.Ve. Shekher’s residence at Mylapore after he received threatening phone calls. The actor, who is also a member of the censor board, approached the local police with a complaint on Monday. He had stated that he has been receiving threats since Sunday after the board refused to certify a movie based on war crimes in Sri Lanka and the atrocities against Tamils.
Porkalathil Oru Poo, directed by Ganesh, is said to be about Isaipriya, a television journalist who was allegedly raped and murdered by the Sri Lankan army during the final stages of the war.
The board had refused clearance for the movie about two months ago, police said. Following his complaint, we have posted policemen on security detail, Mylapore police said.
