AGM postponed until N Srinivasan’s verdict

BCCI in India postponed its all-important annual general meeting — scheduled in Kolkata on September 27
New Delhi: Awaiting the Supreme Court’s verdict on former president N. Srinivasan’s presence at the board’s meetings, the Board of Control for Cricket in India postponed its all-important annual general meeting — scheduled in Kolkata on September 27 — indefinitely.
According to the Societies Registra-tion Act, an organisation needs to issue a 24-day prior notice before conducting an AGM. And with 14 days left for the meet, it is only a foregone conclusion that a postponement of AGM was needed in order to adhere to the BCCI’s constitution.
The cricket body had on Saturday filed a petition seeking clarification from the apex court on whether Srinivasan could attend the meeting in his capacity as the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association president.
Srinivasan’s presence at the BCCI working committee meeting in Kolkata last month led to an adjournment as many members felt that it would be a contempt of court. Eventually BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya adjourned the working committee meeting sine die.
“Certain things are not in our hands. This has not happened for the first time. It has happened many times,” Anurag Thakur was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “As per our legal opinion he (Srinivasan) could not attend the meeting. But he then forced himself to be in the meeting. “And we did not want any contempt of court. That is why we have filed the petition on Friday and may be in a few days’ time we should get the order,” Thakur said.
