Row over cemetery continues

No SCB official has visited the site
Hyderabad: Authorities of the Bowenpally British-era Roman Catholic cemetery have set up their own barricades to thwart any further unauthorised land acquisition. The SCB had assured them that re-marking would be done and no further land would be acquired. However, no SCB official has visited the site.
Religious heads held a protest on Sunday, condemning the forceful occupation.
Father M. Bernard, vicar general of Hyderabad Archdiocese, said, “Even after repeated requests were made to the SCB CEO, nothing has been done to conduct re-marking of the site. The Board CEO had assured us that she would visit the site and even build the compound wall, but so far nothing has been done.
He said the Hyderabad Archdiocese is willing to give 15 feet land in return as compensation, or land elsewhere but the SCB has not responded. “The compound wall, including three rooms, have been knocked down. Following no action by the SCB, the cemetery heads have put up their own barricades and a board. On Monday morning, the Hyderabad archbishop will visit the area,” he said.
