Badaga woman wins US foundation award

Chicago Mayor Mr R. Emanuel was among those who was present during the award distribution function
Ooty: Vasukie Arjunan, a Badaga woman and a school teacher, was conferred with “Woman Empowerment 2015” award at a function held at Chicago in the U.S. for her contribution towards empowering under privileged with education.
This international award instituted by the ISOL-Foundation (Integrating Spirituality with Organizational Leadership, based at Iowa in the U.S. was conferred to Ms Arjunan at a function held at Chicago on September 11, wherein Swami Vivekananda made his famous religious address at the World Religious Conferences in September 11 in 1893. Ms Arjunan, Chairperson of the Gurukulam matric school at Agalar at Thuneri village here has been contributing to the cause of educating rural children. Chicago Mayor Mr R. Emanuel was among those who was present during the award distribution function.
ISOL-Foundation recognises the “incredible contribution made by Ms Vasukie Arujunan towards empowering underprivileged children with education through unique curriculum where traditional knowledge is enriched with ancient wisdom,” the citation said.
Ms Arjunan spoke about the role played by her husband N. Arjunan, who strived hard to start a school to cater to the needs of village students to provide complete quality education.
“Technological advancements have given us all sorts of comforts. However, material comforts will never quench the thirst of soul, which is always longing for peace, harmony and salvation,” she said.
