Kidnappers abandon 7-year-old unhurt, escape

They left the child at Nagarjunasagar crossroads and fled after informing his parents
Hyderabad: The gang that had kidnapped a seven-year-old boy and sought Rs 1 crore ransom released the boy in a few hours fearing police raid. They left the child at Nagarjunasagar crossroads and fled after informing his parents. The police took the boy and delivered him to his parents.
The boy, Yeshesh Vijay Patra, said two masked men were in the car, and that they spoke in Telugu. Police is verifying CCTV footages at signals to identify the vehicle and catch the offenders.
The boy, a Class II student, told the police that his abductors did not harm him but had told him to remain quiet.
According to the police, five hours after the kidnap, the victim’s father, Mr Ashish Kumar, a marble trader, got a call from the abductors that they were leaving the boy at Sagar crossroads.
“They left the kid on the roadside and sped away. One of our team went there and rescued the kid at around 11.30 pm,” said LB Nagar inspector E. Srinivas Reddy said.
The boy said that the abductors had covered their faces. While one person was driving the Fiat car, the other had pinned him down.
After Vijay was kidnapped, his parents had immediately alerted the police. After a few minutes, they got a call from the abductors asking for '1 crore for their son’s release. They also threatened the parents not to inform the police.
However, a team of 100 police officials were immediately pressed into action on all possible routes. “The kidnappers must have thought they did not have a choice as there was heavy police deployment on their route,” said the inspector.
Vijay was outside his house with his bicycle at around 7 pm when a white car had pulled up near him and a person had forced him inside the car. Police have got a few CCTV footages from the traffic signals, and a manhunt has been launched for the offenders. A case for abduction has been filed.
