18-year-old youth allegedly bludgeoned the child to death by smashing his head

Bengaluru: Close on the heels of a murder of three children in Banasawadi, another gruesome incident has been reported from Goraguntepalya in Rajagopalanagar. A one-and-a-half-year-old boy, who had gone missing on Saturday evening, was found murdered on Sunday morning. An 18-year-old youth allegedly bludgeoned the boy to death by smashing his head with heavy stones on the Air Force Campus in Yeshwanthpur on Saturday evening.

The deceased child has been identified as Firoz , son of Rafeeq. Rafeeq, who works as ragpicker, lives with his family in Rajagopalanagar.

The police have arrested Murthy, also a rag picker and a resident of RMC Yard, who confessed to the murder after a thorough interrogation by the police. He reportedly told the police that Rafeeq came to his house for a drink along with his child.

After they consumed alcohol, Murthy told Rafeeq that he had to go somewhere and took the boy along with him without Rafeeq’s knowledge. Murthy then took the boy to the Air Force Campus in Yeshwanthpur in Goraguntepalya, bludgeoned him to death and smashed his head with stones.

Rafeeq lodged a missing complaint with the jurisdictional police around 5.30 pm after frantically searching for the boy for over two hours. Rajagopalanagar police registered a kidnapping case and formed a team to conduct the investigation. Based on Rafeeq’s statement, the police picked up Murthy, who confessed to the murder during the interrogation.

Based on his revelation, the police took him to the spot on Sunday morning and recovered the boy’s body. The police are questioning Murthy further to ascertain the motive behind the brutal murder.

A senior police officer, “Both the accused and victim’s father were friends for the last three years. We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder and are questioning the accused.”

A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered in Rajagopalanagar police station.
