Lack of sleep could be the reason you are gaining weight: study

Your immune system and brain are also negatively affected due to less sleep

Sleeping less could cause many more problems to you than just under-eye bags and drowsiness. An info graphic by Erik Mace on Yahoo Health clearly illustrates the different things that happen to your body after getting less than six hours of sleep at night.

According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), sleep deprivation is now considered a public health epidemic because of its pervasiveness. A study conducted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society has also found that adults need a minimum of seven hours of sleep to stay healthy and productive.

The Journal of Sleep Research published a study that found that just one night of not getting adequate sleep can raise ghrelin levels, which is a hormone that signals hunger to the brain. Other research also claims that sleeping just two hours less that your usual amount of sleep can slow down your metabolism and make you feel bloated, reports Yahoo Health.
