The Miss America pageant officially apologised to actress Vanessa Williams, more than 30 years after she was forced to resign being Miss America, which she was crowned in 1983.
The 52-year-old, who was asked to resign after nude photos of her were published in 1984 by Penthouse, was told by Miss America CEO Sam Haskell III during the 2016 pageant,
“You have lived your life in grace and dignity and never was it more evident than during the events of 1984 when you resigned... I want to apologise for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less than the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be.”
