Yettinahole: M Veerappa Moily faces protests

The protesters tried to stop Mr Moily’s car and also displayed footwear and black flags

Mangaluru: Former Union minister and Member of Parliament, M. Veerappa Moily, faced protests against Yettinahole river diversion project during his visit to this coastal city with some protestors trying to mob him with black flags and footwear in their hands, on Saturday.

Mr Moily was about to leave the venue of a function when activists tried to stop him. He stepped out of his car and received ten questions related to Yettinahole project from protesters who wanted him to answer them and attend discussions scheduled for September 19. He tried to convince the activists but in vain. They alleged that Mr Moily was responsible for Netravathi diversion and Yettinahole project even as he returned to his car. The protesters tried to stop Mr Moily’s car and also displayed footwear and black flags. They were, however, arrested by policemen. “Veerappa Moily and D V Sadananda Gowda are the two leaders responsible for Yettinahole project. We are opposed to this as it will adversely affect the environment and people in the region. Henceforth, these two leaders should not be invited to any event in the district. If they are invited we will disrupt the programme,” warned Sahyadri Sanchaya convener Dinesh Holla.
