Staff slam unjust Telangana policies
Hyderabad: TS staff feel the state’s arguments on promotions are unjustified. “There is no justification in TS government’s claim that the delay in issuing promotions was due to bifurcation issues. The bifurcation applies to AP also, but the AP is giving promotions to eligible staff in Secretariat and other departments. Any delay in promotion would result in heavy loss for an employee, both career-wise and monetary-wise,” said TS employees united forum president A. Padma Chary.
Promotions were stopped due to the political uncertainty prevailing in the state after the Congress, which headed then UPA government at the Centre, took a decision to bifurcate AP and create TS in August 2013.
The ban was necessitated due to “charged up emotions” between TS and AP staff over bifurcation issue and government anticipated trouble if promotions were taken up at that stage.
Employees, too, kept quiet on promotions since then with a hope that they would get more promotions once Telangana state was formed.
But their wait continues even after TS was formed more than 15 months ago. Under pressure from employees unions, the government recently initiated the process in some departments, which the TS staff claims as “namesake” promotions.
The unions say not even 10 per cent of the total 3.50 lakh staff got promotions. Even they were given at higher levels who constitute fewer in number.
“More staff work at lower-levels. If promotions are given at lower levels, more staff will benefit besides creating vacancies for fresh graduates for whom recruitment exams can be conducted,” Mr Padma Chary said.
